Our Approach to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy

At Northeast Family Services, we work closely with caregivers to help them feel confident and supported in their role. Our goal is to give families the tools they need to support their child's growth at home, in school, and in the community.

Core Principles

Compassionate Care

Compassionate care means putting the individual at the center of everything we do. It is a client-centered approach that emphasizes empathy, respect, and genuine collaboration throughout every aspect of service delivery.

For us, compassionate care means recognizing and honoring each client's experiences, feelings, and dignity, not just their behavioral profile. It means treating families as partners, listening as much as we instruct, and ensuring that every interaction reflects our commitment to the whole person, not just the presenting behavior.

Culturally Humble Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Culturally humble Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) goes beyond being aware of cultural differences. It means actively engaging in ongoing self-reflection, committing to lifelong learning, and building respectful partnerships with clients and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

At Northeast Family Services, our clinicians and behavior technicians approach each family with a genuine curiosity about their values, perspectives, and lived experiences. We recognize that our own cultural knowledge has limits, and we center the client's worldview in how we develop and deliver treatment. Cultural humility is not a checklist. It is a practice we return to every day.

Trauma-Informed Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Trauma-informed Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) integrates an understanding of trauma and its effects into every aspect of how we deliver services. This means prioritizing safety, building trust, and ensuring that our interventions are sensitive to each individual's history and past experiences.

We design our programs to be empowering, not coercive. We recognize that for some children and families, previous experiences in clinical or educational settings may have been difficult. Our approach actively works to avoid re-traumatization and to create a therapeutic environment where clients and families feel safe, respected, and genuinely supported.

Caregiver Partnership

Everything we do is designed to extend beyond the therapy session. We work closely with parents and caregivers to build their confidence and equip them with practical strategies they can use every day, at the kitchen table, during homework time, on the playground, and everywhere else that matters to your child.

Our goal is not just to support the child in front of us. It is to strengthen the entire family system so that progress is sustainable long after services end.
