Our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) social skills groups give children and teens with autism a structured, supportive environment to build communication skills, develop friendships, and practice real-world social interaction, all while doing something they enjoy.
Learning how to connect with peers is one of the most important skills a child can develop, and one of the most difficult for many children with autism. Our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) social skills groups use Applied Behavior Analysis principles to break down social behaviors into teachable components, giving each participant the tools to interact and communicate more effectively with the people around them.
Groups are fun, engaging, and built around what kids actually care about. That is not an accident. Shared interest in the group's topic provides a natural foundation for forming connections and working on friendship skills in a natural, low-pressure context.
How Groups Are Structured
Interest-based groups
Groups formed around topics of common interest, such as building blocks, arts and crafts, gaming, and similar activities. Shared interest in the topic serves as the basis for forming relationships and practicing friendship skills in a natural, low-pressure context.
Age-based groups
Groups designed around developmental milestones and age-appropriate social goals, with separate tracks for pre-teens, teens, and young adults. Each age group focuses on the specific social skills most relevant to that stage of development.
What We Focus On
Our social skills groups target essential areas of development, including:
- Communication and conversation skills
- Initiating and responding to social interactions
- Understanding social cues and body language
- Building and maintaining friendships
- Problem-solving in social situations
- Cooperation and group participation
Who Can Participate
Social skills groups are available to children, pre-teens, teens, and young adults with autism spectrum disorder who are currently receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services through Northeast Family Services, or who are referred through our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program.
