A great internship does more than fulfill a requirement. It shapes the kind of clinician or behavioral health professional you become. At Northeast Family Services, interns work alongside professionals in real clinical environments (in-home, office-based, and community settings) serving children, families, and adults who genuinely need support.
You will have structured supervision, meaningful caseloads, and exposure to the full range of services Northeast Family Services provides. Whether you are in a social work, psychology, or counseling program, an internship at Northeast Family Services will give you the foundation to enter the field with confidence.

Real Clinical Experience
Interns at Northeast Family Services work directly with clients under the supervision of a licensed clinical supervisor. Depending on your placement, you may work in outpatient therapy, in-home services, behavioral health, or community-based settings. You will not spend your internship filing paperwork. You will be doing the work.
Structured Supervision
Every intern receives consistent supervision from a clinical supervisor. We provide feedback, guidance, and support throughout your placement so you are developing skills, not just logging hours.
Multi-State Placements
We offer placements across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and New Hampshire. Whether you are looking for an urban clinical environment or a community-based role in a smaller setting, we have options across all four states.
Exposure to Diverse Populations
Northeast Family Services serves children, teens, adults, couples, and families across a wide range of backgrounds and clinical needs. Interns gain experience working with diverse populations in culturally responsive, community-centered care environments.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from graduate students in social work (MSW), clinical psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, applied behavior analysis, and related behavioral health fields. We accept both first-year and second-year placements depending on program requirements and availability.
Strong candidates are genuinely motivated to work with families and individuals in need, open to feedback and supervision, and committed to showing up consistently for their clients and their team.

What programs do you accept interns from?
We accept interns from MSW, clinical psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, applied behavior analysis, and related graduate programs. Undergraduate placements are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Are internships paid?
Most Northeast Family Services internships are unpaid field placements coordinated through your graduate program. Some paid internship or trainee positions may be available depending on the role and location. Ask about paid opportunities when you apply.
What states do you offer placements in?

Do you offer supervision for licensure hours?
Yes. Interns receive supervision from clinical supervisors. Hours may count toward your licensure requirements depending on your state and program. Confirm with your program coordinator what qualifies.
