Why medication management?
Deciding whether medication is right for you or your child is a big decision. We do not take it lightly, and neither should you.
At Northeast Family Services, our psychiatric providers offer thorough evaluations, honest conversations, and ongoing support. We do not prescribe in isolation, and we do not rush the process. If medication is the right fit, we will monitor your progress closely and adjust as needed. If it is not the right fit, we will tell you that, too.
Medication management is available for both children and adults across all of the states we serve.
How it works
1
Step 1: Your First Appointment About Medication
Your first appointment is an evaluation. Your psychiatric provider will take the time to understand what you are experiencing, review your history, and ask questions about how your symptoms are affecting your daily life. This is not a quick check-in. It is a real conversation.
2
Step 2: A Plan Built Around You
After the evaluation, your provider will walk you through their findings and recommendations. If medication is part of the plan, they will explain how it works, what to watch for, and what to expect in the weeks ahead. You will never be handed a prescription without understanding why.
3
Step 3: Ongoing Monitoring and Support
Medication management does not stop at the prescription. Your provider will check in with you regularly to see how things are going, address any concerns, and adjust your treatment if needed. We track your progress and stay in close contact with your therapist to make sure your whole care plan is moving in the right direction.
Coordinated Care
One of the most important things we do is make sure your prescriber and your therapist are on the same page.
We coordinate your full treatment plan across your care team so that your plan is aligned. We make sure your providers are communicating about your treatment. You are not left trying to manage a gap between providers.
If you are seeing a therapist outside of Northeast Family Services and are interested in adding medication, we can help with that, too.
Who medication management is for
Medication management may be a good fit if you or your child:
- Have been diagnosed with a condition like depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or another mental health condition
- Are currently in therapy but not seeing the progress you hoped for
- Have tried medication before and want a provider who will take a careful, individualized approach
- Are a parent looking for psychiatric support for your child alongside their existing therapy
- Need a medication evaluation as part of a broader treatment plan
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Northeast Family Services offer medication management?
Yes, we offer medication management for clients in all four states we serve. Our psychiatric providers offer psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management for both children and adults.
Do I need to be in therapy at Northeast Family Services to get medication management?
Yes.
What happens at a psychiatric evaluation?
A psychiatric evaluation is a thorough conversation between you and a psychiatric provider. They will ask about your symptoms, your history, how you are functioning day to day, and what goals you have for treatment. It typically takes about an hour. The goal is to understand your full picture before making any recommendations.
Will my prescriber and therapist communicate with each other?
Yes. At Northeast Family Services, we coordinate care across your treatment team. Your prescriber and therapist will stay in communication so that your medication and therapy are working together, not separately.
Is medication management available for children?
Yes. We offer psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children and adolescents as well as adults. Our providers take a careful, age-appropriate approach and work closely with parents throughout the process.
How often will I need to come in for medication management appointments?
Frequency depends on your situation. After an initial evaluation, most clients are seen monthly or every few months for follow-up appointments. Your provider will let you know what makes sense for your care plan.
Is medication management covered by Medicaid?
Yes. Medication management through Northeast Family Services is covered by Medicaid for eligible clients. Coverage for commercial insurance varies by plan and state. Contact us and we will verify your benefits.
